Corporate Citizenship

Integrating corporate social responsibility into business strategy for maximum benefit to companies and the community

Businesses in the United States, and Central Florida in particular, are poised and eager to incorporate corporate social responsibility (CSR) into the important work they do. They believe business can be a force for good and are implementing CSR programs aligning their values with their daily operations. The Corporate Citizenship program at the Edyth Bush Institute was established to inspire, guide and support these companies in a way that is both good for business and the community.

What is Corporate Social Responsibility?

Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, is a business approach that contributes to positive business outcomes by delivering economic, environmental and social benefits for all stakeholders. It is sometimes referred to as corporate citizenship, community investment or sustainability. The semantics, however, aren’t as important as what a company is trying to achieve. In addition to deepening their community impact, businesses benefit from:

  • Enhanced company reputation
  • Improved ability to recruit, engage and retain top talent
  • Improved innovation or operational excellence that adds value to customers
  • Ability to address social and environmental issues that have the potential to disrupt business
  • Stakeholder trust and acceptance that philanthropic and other corporate citizenship initiatives are credible since they see the logical connection to company values, purpose and core competencies.

It is very likely your business is already doing good. And certainly some good is better than none at all. By developing a strategy to align your CSR programs with your business objectives, you’ll see increased success in achieving the outcomes valued by your company and maximized impact in the communities in which you do business.

CSR TALKS

Raising awareness for corporate social responsibility and its benefits to companies, nonprofits and the community.

The concept of CSR is not new; however, it is evolving into something any company of any size can adopt. It goes beyond corporate philanthropy to complete corporate engagement, beyond deep pockets to deep impact. It acknowledges that businesses could and should play a role in improving the well-being of others. And it is driving how the next generation of leaders makes decisions.

Often the first step is understanding what CSR is and its benefits to companies, nonprofits and the community. So, let’s start there.

Connect with us if your group is interested in hosting a CSR TALK. Kecia Carroll, our manager of corporate citizenship and CSR advisor, could present on one of the following topics or customize something according to the specific interests of your group:

  • CSR 101: Understanding CSR and its benefits to business, nonprofits & community
  • The Evolving Landscape of CSR: From roots to results
  • Becoming CSR Champions: Leading within your company

Consulting & Customized Programs

Supporting businesses in establishing CSR strategies and initiatives consistent with their business objectives

Values drive business decisions. They also serve as the anchor for a comprehensive CSR strategy. As a result, no two CSR plans are alike. The Edyth Bush Institute offers coaching and consulting-based programs to help companies ready to align CSR strategies with business objectives, as well as provide customized support for an organization’s many champions for CSR:

  • Leadership – Define and develop strategies aligned with business objectives. Leverage core competencies to deliver impact to the business and community.
  • Human Resources – Leverage CSR strategies in attracting, engaging and retaining top talent.
  • Marketing & Communications – Integrate CSR efforts with brand strategies to create social value and build reputation with all stakeholder groups.
  • Community Relations – Elevate existing programs beyond corporate philanthropy and volunteer initiatives. Identify and establish methods of measuring outcomes and impact.
  • Emerging Leaders – Build a business case for social responsibility. Develop the support needed to harness the power of the entire organization in having a greater impact.

If your company needs help starting a CSR program, assistance focusing an existing one, or coaching in a specific area of CSR, we can design a program that fits your needs and a roadmap to meet your goals.
